Blog #2, Passions

Throughout different parts of my (so far) short life I feel like my addictive personality has led me to develop passions towards various subjects. I tend to try to learn everything about these subjects as fast as possible until I grow bored of them and move onto a different one.
My first passion would've had to have been computers, and it's one that's still strong to this day. I don't exactly remember when I played my first video game or what game it even was, but around the age of three to four is when I remember interacting with my first computer. I believe it was an old Windows 95 machine. It was so terrible and ran so slow, you even had to hold the power button on the monitor in to get it to stay on. Even with those setbacks it was still an amazing piece of equipment, and from my childhood until around the age of 14 I only focused my efforts towards learning and understanding the structure of them.
I then started to shift my efforts towards astronomy, physics, and understanding the workings of the cosmos. This lasted from about 15-18. The fact that the universe is so vast and we know so little about it inspired me to read up on various nebulae, star systems, and galaxies. I was fascinated with the idea of worm holes, traveling faster in time by reaching incredible velocities, and the possibility of alien life.
After that subject became somewhat dull, I started to research the subject of the consciousness and unconscious experience, and how legal and illegal substances affect the functions of the brain. This was from about the age of 18 until the present. I suppose this encompasses two things: brain structure and drugs. I never realized how complicated the process of something like taking a prescribed pharmaceutical or LSD really is. I'm mainly talking about the interactions between the substances and the brain, and how they affect the body after being broken down and placed in their respective inhibitors.
I suppose my friends interest in drugs coincided with my passion for understanding these interactions as well. My friends are all frequent users of cannabis, various psychedelics, and some stimulants. I myself have only vaporized cannabis, though I'd like to try a few psychedelics when I have more time in the Summer.
I do worry sometimes that my friends might get too involved with them or might form some type of addiction to an illicit substance, but we've always been the group of educated nerds who would be too smart to fall into that type of trap. Only time will tell I suppose.
PS: I guess Starcraft II would be a bit of a mini passion for me. I love watching tournaments and following players, but I haven't had the time to play it all that much lately. Perhaps in the Summer I'll try to reach Masters and play some decent players.
